Manchester City enter Marc Guehi race! Liverpool face serious competition for Crystal Palace ace with Pep Guardiola's side considering summer swoop

Manchester City are ready to rival Liverpool for potential free agent Marc Guehi next summer. The Reds agreed a deal to sign the Crystal Palace centre-back in the summer but the move collapsed on deadline day as the Eagles pulled the plug at the eleventh hour. Now, the Reds face intense competition for his signature, with his contract expiring.

  • Guehi to move next summer?

Per the Mirror, City are ready to rival Liverpool for Guehi next summer when his contract expires. The Reds had agreed a £35 million ($48m) deal to sign the England international but the plug was pulled at the eleventh hour, giving other clubs an opportunity to muscle into the race.

    Pep Guardiola's interest

While there is said to be European interest in Guehi, he is not minded to move in January – although he can agree a pre-contract with a foreign club from the turn of the year – and City are understood to be admirers. They did not get involved in the race to sign the defender in the summer as his move to Liverpool appeared certain, but the late twist has set the cat amongst the pigeons.

  • Contract terms key

Guehi can receive a major signing-on fee if he does move on a free transfer but City and Liverpool have an inherent disadvantage in that they cannot negotiate a deal in January in the same way that foreign clubs can. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona are also monitoring developments.

    London derbies await

Guehi will next be in action in consecutive London derbies when Palace play Millwall in the Carabao Cup in midweek before a league game against West Ham this weekend.
